Travelling to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
Sunny Beach is situated in the southern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is 40 kilometres north of the city of Bourgas (or Burgas). The simplest way to travel to Sunny Beach is to take a flight to Bourgas International Airport but flights are only available during the summer. An alternative route is via Varna Airport, which is open all year round.

Varna Airport, Bulgaria

Varna International Airport is situated just outside the city of Varna, on the road to Sofia. Varna airport offers scheduled flights to and from the UK all year round. Flights are also available between Varna and countries such as Austria, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Russia, Slovakia and Sweden. Varna airport is about 90 minutes' to 2 hours' drive from Sunny Beach.
Varna to Sunny Beach by Road
The main coast road between Varna and Bourgas is being upgraded to a motorway, which will reduce the journey time significantly. (It is currently about 2 hours’ drive.) At the moment, some stretches of the road are fast dual-carriageways with good road surfaces, but other sections have poor quality tarmac and few places to overtake.
Some of the scenery along the coast between Varna and Sunny Beach is truly spectacular. The road twists and turns as it winds its way up the hillsides and down into the valleys. There are beautiful forests and lush meadows (especially stunning in the spring and early summer, with poppies and other colourful flowers dotting the landscape). From the hilltops are amazing views of the Black Sea, until the road finally dips down to the plain where the beaches of Elenite and Sunny Beach greet you.
Travelling from Canada to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
If you are travelling from Canada you can fly to Sofia and then take an internal flight to Bourgas, which is the closest airport to Sunny Beach. Alternatively, you can fly to Varna and then travel down to Sunny Beach via the coast road.
